  • Support for researchers

Deakin Research provides support for our researchers in finding, applying and managing research grants, awards and prizes. Deakin Research also provides supervision and training for its research students.

    Find funding and prizes

All research applications must be recorded and submitted by Deakin Research so that awarded research income is accurately reported as part of the Higher Education Research Data Collection (HERDC).

Use Research Professional to set up saved searches and email alerts for funding opportunities relevant to you. Research Professional provides guidance sheets to help you establish your profile. If you need additional support, please contact your faculty/institute Liaison Librarian.

Meet our Deakin Research Grants team

Deakin has allowed me a lot of autonomy in my research, and autonomy is important in being able to do good research because research is as much art as it is science.

    Supervision and training

Supervision is one of the most important tasks undertaken by academic staff. It involves an intensive monitoring relationship through which the student develops into an independent researcher. The effectiveness of that relationship is a key factor in the successful completion by a student of their research masters or doctoral degree.

Deakin Research provide extensive resources and training programs for supervisors of research masters or doctoral degree students.

    Gender Equity in Research Policy

At Deakin we understand that being a researcher and a primary carer with responsibility for children, elderly or disabled relatives is often challenging. Delivering high-quality research outputs can be restricted by a reduced capacity to attend conferences or taking periods of extended leave.

Our gender equity programs seek to address some of the known barriers to career progression. This is by no means the end of our work. Through the SAGE Athena SWAN pilot and other initiatives we will continue to find ways to increase diversity. At the same time we will put in place policies and practices that provide support to people of different ethnicities, genders, sexualities, age, and disabilities to feel included and to achieve their goals.

    Our programs include:

    • Career Continuity in Research
    • Vice-Chancellor’s Support Fund
    • Achievement Relative to Opportunity
    • Keeping Connected

For more information about these programs and how to apply, please visit our staff wiki page (login required).
